A complete 8-volume set of The Romanesque Edition, number 348 of 500 numbered copies. --- Britain's Haldane MacFall (1860 1928) was an Army officer who became a highly-respected art critic. In this complete 8-volume set, he traces the advancement of fine art painters, from the Italian Renaissance through the early 20th century. With 200 color plates tipped onto leaves, with a captioned tissue-guard for each. The illustrations are accompanied by MacFall's authoritative descriptions. Comprehensive index for all volumes at rear of volume VIII. Includes a preface by Frank Brangwyn. --- In reddish-brown three-quarter leather, with pink-toned cloth. Gilt-stamped titling and decorations to spines, with four raised bands to each, TEG (top edges gilt). Each volume about 250 pp to about 325 pp. Volumes are undated, possibly published c.1910s-1920s. --- A generally well-preserved set, though with some dark spotting to spines, occasional mild chafing to leather and soiling here and there to cloth.
