Item description from seller

A smart three volume set of copiously illustrated facsimile editions from The History of Microscopy series, celebrating microscopes and their contribution to science. A three volume set. The facsimile editions. In the publisher's original green leatherette bindings. Three volumes within the scarce History of Microscopy series, edited by microscope specialist and pathologist James B. McCormcick, and his wife Suzanne. A pathologist having worked heavily with microscopes, McCormick gained a fascination with antique microscopes and was inspired to build his own replica collection after visiting the Science History Museum in Oxford. This attractive series was designed to accompany the collection of replicas he built, printing attractive facsimiles on foundational works within microscopy and his own history. This set comprises: 'Micrographia: or Some Phyliological Descriptions of Nature Bodies Made by Minute Bodies Made by Magnifying Glasses With Observations and Inquiries Thereupon'. By R. Hooke, originally published in 1665, with thirty-eight plates. 'A Treatise on the Construction, Proper Use, and Capabilities of Smith, Beck, and Beck's Achromatic Microscopes'. By Richard Beck, originally published in 1865, with twenty-eight plates and in text illustrations throughout. 'A Practical Treatise on the Use of the Microscope, Including the Different Methods of Preparing and Examining Animal, Vegetable, and Mineeral Structures'. By John Quekett, originally published in 1848, with nine plates and in text illustrations throughout. All volumes collated, complete. In the publisher's original leatherette bindings. Externally, excellent. Minor shelf wear to the heads and tails of the spines. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Fine. …
