The History of England, From the Invasion of Julius Caesar to the Revolution in 1688. In eight volumes. Printed for T. Cadell, London, UK, 1778. "A new edition, with the Author's last Corrections and Improvements. To which is prefixed, a short Account of his Life, written by himself." All in full leather. Spines are divided in six panels, separated and outlined with gilt fillets and designs; the second panels are red leather with the title in gilt, the fourth is the number of the volume, and the other four are filled-in with gilt decorations. All outermost board edges are decorated in gilt dentelles. Board panels and edges are scuffed, all fore-edge corners are rubbed through. External page edges are age- and soil-darkened. Text pages are age-toned. Some occasional internal stains, foxing is minimal. Owner's name in pencil somewhere on the several first pages. All volumes have marbled end-papers, a FFEP, two blank pages and a half-title, except where described below: Vol I: 481pp. Spine is chipped. First and second spine panels are chipped. The fourth panel is missing the volume number. Spine is missing upper and lower end-caps. Front spine gutter is cracked and mostly separated but holding. Back spine gutter is partially cracked at the head and tail. Blank pages after FFEP are missing. Gutter is cracked at verso of FFEP and half-title page. Frontispiece of Hume facing title page. First back free paper has a 2" by 3/8" rectangular notch toward the lower edge. Leather is chipped on the lower left corner of back panel, approx. 2" by 1" triangular. Vol II: 510pp. Front gutter is cracked but holding. Back gutter has 1 1/2" crack at the top and 5/8" at the bottom. End cap is missing at tail. Front corner is missing at head of spine, tail of spine has several chips. Leather is chipped at lower right front corner. Damp-staining to some extent on lower fore-edge corners from pp. 430-510. Vol III: 464pp. Front gutter is cracked but holding. Edges at head and tail of spine are rubbed, end-cap is in place at tail, holding by a thread at head. Red leather label in second spine panel is missing. Leather is chipped at lower right front corner. Two blank front pages after FFEP and half-title page are missing. Insect tunneling to some extent, mostly in the upper margins, on pp. 193-292. Vol IV: 464pp. Upper end of spine has a 1 3/4" crack on back gutter and 1 1/4" on front gutter, upper end-cap is missing. Half-title page is missing. Vol V: 536pp. Edges at head and tail of spine are rubbed; end-cap is present at head but missing at tail. Half of the red label is second panel is missing, as is the "V" in the fourth panel. Heavy scuffing along the lower board edges adjacent to spine. Vol VI: 588pp. Corners are chipped at head of spine. Gutters at head of spine have a 2 1/4" crack at the front and 1 1/4" crack at the back; gutters at tail of spine have a 3/4" crack at the front and 2" at the back. End-cap is missing at tail. Vol VII: 532pp. Front and back gutter cracks of approx. 1" and end-cap is missing at head of spine; leather is chipped at tail of spine, back gutter has 1 3/4" crack, front gutter has 3/8" crack. Shallow chips along fore-edge of back board panel. Vol VIII: 338pp of text, followed by unpaginated Index of over 200 pages, 2 pages of ads. Front spine gutter has 1" crack at head of spine and 2" at tail; back gutter has 1" crack at tail of spine. Back panel is heavily rubbed/chipped in the upper right fore-edge corner, across the lower edge and adjacent to the spine. End-cap is exposed at head of spine and missing at tail of spine. Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to R & G Bliss Books, Excelsior, Minnesota, U.S.A., without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
