About this Item
An exclusive Deluxe Edition limited to just 600 hand-numbered copies, this set numbered 110. The six-volume edition from 1851 -1857, featuring over 300 vintage illustrations. In 1846, Congress commissioned pioneering ethnographer Henry Schoolcraft to create an encyclopedia on America's Native Tribes. Recruiting the renowned painter and illustrator of Indian life, General Seth Eastman, Schoolcraft produced what remains one of the most comprehensive, important and irreplaceable accounts of Native American culture and life ever published. Many illustrations were, at great expense, printed in full-color and many were colored by hand in each copy of the book. Features include: 1. Six grand oversize 95/8" x 123/8" volumes over 3,300 pages combined bound in premium leather with traditional "hubbed" spines, and 22kt gold titles and cover design. 2. Henry Schoolcraft's treasury of information on Native American history. 3. All of the illustrations included in the original six 1851-1857 volumes: over 320 plates and maps, most by Seth Eastman, 155 in color. 4. Pages Smyth-sewn into the bindings, luxurious acid-neutral archival-quality paper, traditional marbled end sheets, gilded page-ends. All volumes are in as new condition with the exception of Volume 1 which has a slight scratch on the front cover. I have included a picture of this slight flaw in the otherwise perfect set. Extra postage will be required. Seller Inventory # 15176
