The character of our blessed Saviour has been very forcibly drawn by different writers, though none of them have been able to glve a just pic ture of the divine original. From what they have written, and from 'our ownmstudy of the holy scriptures, we shall endeavor to place this picture in a light so strikingly amiableythatjlot to ad mire it must argue a total want of common sense, as well as an absolute indifference to our best and greatest interest.
Our Saviour'was descended of a poor wo man, 'and so humble was his state, that neither J ews, Gentiles, 'nor even the apostles themselves; could at first discern the essence of that divinity Which afterwards became so conspicuous but his life became greatly worthy of imitation, even from the confession of his professed enemies. The wife of Pilate called him that just per son Pilate pronounced him guih'zess and Judas said he was innocent Thus we see, that though the preaching of Christ mighttbe obnoxious to some, the force of his doctrine was generally confessed.
