Add to basketThe work of the late Thomas Hope; from works configured by his son. Architecture had been the author's 'favourite hobby' from the age of eighteen. Widely travelled, it was a hobby that he pursued by visiting many parts of Europe, the coast of Africa and his native England. (NB. There is a faint gilt figure one, located in the top half on the spine, suggesting that this book is a first volume). It is also a library book with a stamp (Belfast Library, founded 1788) and a tipped in book plate on the front pastedown (The Belfast Library and Society for Promotion of Knowledge with an illustration of the Old Linen Hall Library). There is a label on the ffep: 'The time allowed for reading this book is FOURTEEN DAYS.' Half-leather with maroon boards. Top edge stained brown, fore and bottom edges: speckled red. Gilt titles along the spine. pp. xiii, 561/8vo (royal octavo). Condition: boards are a little shelf-worn. The pages are moderately tanned with occasional spotting; more evident on the preliminary and final ones. See image of ex-libris label and the above cited instruction to readers. One page (pp. 237) has a deliberately folded (dog ear) corner as the page would otherwise overlap the bookblock in the top right-hand corner. Both front and back hinges have a blue cloth band along them, suggesting some sort of repair (see image). Please note that because of the weight of this book (2kg+) and, depending on destination, we may request an additional payment to cover any extra shipping/postage charges. Abe2317.
