About this Item
[32], 333p, 439p, 391p, 346p, 368p, 288p, [74]. Contemporary English calf with blindstamped panells on the boards. Edited by Thomas Hearne (1678-1735). Moss p196 remarks that "this is a very accurate edition, and does honour to the industrious antiquary. The text of this edition is taken chiefly from that of Gronovius, which Hearne collated with several MSS, whose various readings he carefully inserted; he has also introduced a few of nos own notes". Ebert #12107 speaks rather favorably of the edition - "Hearne's specification of the various readings is very carefully done". Carter p453. Dibdin p168. Schweiger p535. A few headbands a little rubbed a front hinges cracked, but holding firm. One board detached. Front blanks removed in all volumes, otherwise a rather fresh clean copy printed on quality paper. From the Library of John Peyto Verney Lord Willoughby de Broke with a contemporary bookplate in each volume. Seller Inventory # 2564
