Discover Hong Kong’s exhilarating network of trails where nature and urban wonder intertwine. Venture beyond the iconic skyline to explore volcanic peaks, verdant ridges, and tranquil islands, following paths that reveal the territory’s surprising natural diversity and cultural heritage.
This comprehensive Cicerone guidebook showcases all four of Hong Kong’s legendary long-distance routes, the Hong Kong Trail, Lantau Trail, MacLehose Trail, and Wilson Trail, each divided into short, accessible multi-day stages. Complementing these are 21 hand-picked day walks across Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula, the New Territories, and outlying islands, offering everything from gentle mangrove strolls to challenging mountain ascents. Most routes are suitable for walkers of moderate fitness, while the treks offer exhilarating challenges for experienced hikers, featuring steep climbs and descents that lead to panoramic views of the South China Sea and the iconic city skyline.
- The best season for hiking in Hong Kong is from October to April, when the weather is most comfortable for outdoor activities.
- Hong Kong hiking trails range from 5km family-friendly walks to 23km challenging mountain treks, clearly graded by difficulty and duration.
- Contains detailed 1:50,000 hiking maps and elevation profiles for every Hong Kong trail and walk, with downloadable GPX files for GPS navigation on all routes.
- Features stage-by-stage route descriptions for all major treks: Hong Kong Trail, Lantau Trail, MacLehose Trail, and Wilson Trail, plus 21 day walks across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories, and outlying islands.
- Highlights easy access to hiking routes via Hong Kong’s efficient public transport network, with practical tips and quick-reference information for each trailhead.
- Offers insights into the geology, wildlife, plants, and cultural history of Hong Kong, including Tai Mo Shan summit, mangrove swamps, traditional fishing villages, and unique volcanic landscapes.
- Outlines options for camping on Hong Kong’s remote beaches, stargazing under city lights or in secluded nature, and indulging in Michelin-starred dining after your trek.
