46pp. Modern blue paper wrappers. Despard, 1751-1803, Irish officer in the British army. In 1783 he was put in charge of logging in what became British Honduras, later Belize, and allocated concessions regardless of colour or status. Despard married Catherine, a black Jamaican. After complaints, Despard was recalled to London in 1790, imprisoned, but released in 1794. He became involved with the London Corresponding Society, and was arrested in 1802 after attending a meeting at the Oakley Arms in Lambeth, where informers pointed to him as leader of a plot to assassinate the King. Despite recommendation of clemency by the jury, a character reference from Lord Nelson and tireless efforts by Catherine, he was executed before a crowd of 20,000. Seller Inventory # 95605
