The book itself Is strictly in fine condition with the burgundy cloth covers, with gilt golden spike on the front panel and lettering on the spine, ?As New.? The text pages are also ?As New? showing no markings or damage whatsoever. The jacket does show handling wear with two closed tears at the top of the spine folds and with some wear showing to the edges of the jacket but with no missing chips. This title was, in 1969, the best accounting of the epic construction of the central Pacific Railroad from Sacramento California across the Sierra Nevada Mountains and on out to Utah where it joined the Union Pacific line. This book is liberally sprinkled with black-and-white photograph?s of that time and this title still offers one of the best accounts of one of the most astounding construction stories from America?s past. 317 pages.
