About the Author
Robert J. Marzano, PhD, is cofounder and chief academic officer of Marzano Resources in Denver, Colorado. During his 50 years in the field of education, he has worked with educators as a speaker and trainer and has authored more than 70 books and 250 articles on topics such as instruction, assessment, writing and implementing standards, cognition, effective leadership, and school intervention. His books include The New Art and Science of Teaching, Five Big Ideas for Leading a High Reliability School, Assessment Literacy for Educators, Marzano Mastery Approaches, Leaders of Learning, and the Classroom Strategies series. His practical translations of the latest research and theory into classroom strategies are known internationally and widely practiced by both teachers and administrators.
Dr. Marzano received a bachelor’s degree from Iona College in New York, a master’s degree from Seattle University, and a doctorate from the University of Washington.
Cameron L. Rains, EdD, is the chief executive officer of Solution Tree, where he works with schools, districts, and state education agencies to ensure all students are learning at high levels. Previously, he was a teacher, an instructional coach, and an administrator in multiple capacities. Most recently, he served as the assistant superintendent for Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation in Indiana, where the schools and district were recognized as certified High Reliability Schools.
Dr. Rains is passionate about school improvement and applying research findings in the school environment. He has coauthored many articles and books, including Leading a High Reliability School, Stronger Together: Answering the Questions of Collaborative Leadership, and Professional Learning Communities at Work and High Reliability Schools: Cultures of Continuous Learning.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s in educational leadership from Indiana University. He also holds an educational specialist degree and a doctorate in educational leadership from Ball State University.
Shelley Gies, EdD, is a full-time Marzano Resources associate. She is the former director of curriculum and instruction and a former building-level principal in central Indiana. She also spent 23 years as a classroom teacher, serving grades K–6.
Dr. Gies’s background and focus areas include leading schools and districts through research-based instructional elements, school-improvement initiatives, formative assessment practices, and standards-based learning and reporting.
Dr. Gies received her elementary education degree from Franklin College and her master’s degree from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis. She earned her education specialist degree, doctoral degree, building-level administrator license, and superintendent license from Ball State University.
Johnathon Lee is a regional business office manager for a national organization specializing in educational research, evaluation, professional development, consulting, and product development. He supports project management, budgeting, and stakeholder communication to help deliver complex, multi-district initiatives effectively. Prior to this role, Lee spent 13 years with Marzano Resources as a program manager, where he played an instrumental role in the logistical development of the High Reliability Schools framework and in process innovation for the High Reliability Teacher program.
Lee’s work reflects a strong commitment to supporting data-informed decision making, organizational effectiveness, and sustainable systems that improve outcomes for schools and districts.
Lee earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of the Cumberlands and a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in project management from the University of Southern Indiana. During his master’s program, he was selected as a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. Additionally, he holds an executive education certificate in project management from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and is a lifetime member of the Indiana University Alumni Association.
Philip B. Warrick, EdD spent the first 25 years of his education career as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent, with experience leading schools in the states of Nebraska and Texas. Dr. Warrick received the 1998 Nebraska Outstanding New Principal of the Year and the 2005 Nebraska State High School Principal of the Year—and in 2003, he was one of the initial participants in the Nebraska Educational Leadership Institute, conducted by the Gallup Corporation at Gallup University in Omaha. In 2008, Dr. Warrick was hired as the campus principal at Round Rock High School in Round Rock, Texas. In 2010, he was invited to be an inaugural participant in the Texas Principals’ Visioning Institute, where he collaborated with other principals from the state to develop a vision for effective practices in Texas schools. In 2011, Dr. Warrick joined the Solution Tree–Marzano Resources team; he works as an author and global consultant in the areas of High Reliability Schools leadership, instruction and instructional coaching, assessment, grading, and collaborative teaming.
Dr. Warrick earned a bachelor’s degree from Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska, and his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer you can withdraw from the contract in accordance with the following. Consumer means any natural person who is acting for purposes which are outside his trade, business, craft or profession.
Information regarding the right of withdrawal
Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to AHA-BUCH GmbH, Einbeck, Germany, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
