Print on Demand. This book explores the history of High Point, North Carolina, a city that rapidly grew from humble origins to become a thriving manufacturing hub. From its founding in the early 19th century, the city's economy was based on back-country trade, before evolving to focus on manufacturing as the town's leaders recognized its potential. Factories began to spring up, producing a variety of goods, including furniture, tobacco, and textiles, which led to the establishment of a branch railroad to facilitate the transportation of raw materials. High Point's commitment to progress is also evident in its social and cultural institutions, with the establishment of schools, churches, and a public library, reflecting the city's dedication to the well-being of its citizens. This book provides a rich account of the transformation of High Point, shedding light on the factors that contributed to its remarkable growth and prosperity. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

High Point derived its name from the fact that it is the highest point on the old North Carolina Railway. The civil engineers gave it the name, and, while it does not sound very aristocratic to the stranger's ear, it is very dear to the people and it will never be changed.
