HIGH CALIBER
A Brill Wingfield Espionage Thriller
They spent their lives working in the shadows. Someone has been stealing from them for decades. And now the dead are coming back to collect.
Brill Wingfield has made a career out of solving problems that powerful people would rather keep buried. But his latest case leads him into a world where the most dangerous secrets belong to people everyone else has forgotten.
It begins with a question of money.
Forensic accountant Tess Okafor-Brandt has discovered that payments made in her dead father's name have continued for nearly three decades. Her mother never received them. Someone else has been collecting the money, and the trail leads to Barraque-a shadowy organization with connections to the intelligence world and a history that reaches back to the Cold War.
Tess wants answers. Who killed her father? Why was he involved with Barraque? And who has been profiting from his death?
Brill agrees to help. But the deeper they dig, the stranger the investigation becomes.
Their search takes them to a remote mountain lodge in North Carolina, home to the Retired Officers' Mutual Aid Society. Its elderly members appear to be little more than a collection of harmless old men and women gathering for food, fellowship, and familiar rituals.
Appearances can be deceiving.
Behind the knitting needles, kitchen tables, and quiet conversations lies a lifetime of espionage, clandestine operations, and carefully guarded identities. These men and women once served in the shadows of history. Some carried messages across borders. Others opened doors that were never supposed to exist. All of them have secrets.
And somewhere among them is the truth about a missing fortune, a dead bookkeeper, and a network that has spent decades protecting its own.
Then Osgood Pell arrives.
Declared dead years earlier, the former intelligence instructor carries a satchel of records that could expose the entire operation. Suddenly, the past is no longer a historical curiosity. It's a living threat.
As pressure mounts and powerful people begin offering extraordinary sums to make the problem disappear, Brill and Tess face an impossible choice. Expose the truth and risk destroying the lives of thousands of people whose identities were never meant to become public-or allow a corrupt system to bury its crimes for another generation.
Because some secrets protect the innocent.
Others protect the guilty.
And the difference can cost thousands of lives.
From the hidden machinery of intelligence agencies to a mountain lodge filled with people who know far more than they admit, HIGH CALIBER is a gripping espionage and political conspiracy thriller about loyalty, betrayal, stolen identities, and the price of a lifetime spent serving in the shadows.
Brill Wingfield has faced killers, corrupt officials, and men who believe they are untouchable. But this time, the people he must protect may be the very people who helped create the world he fights against.
The past has a long memory. And somebody is determined to keep it buried.
Perfect for readers who love intelligent spy fiction, government conspiracies, covert intelligence operations, morally complex heroes, and character-driven suspense.
If you enjoy the espionage intrigue of Daniel Silva, the political tension of classic spy fiction, and the relentless investigative instincts of Brill Wingfield, dive into HIGH CALIBER, an unforgettable installment in the Brill Wingfield thriller series.

Store description
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free.
