Print on Demand. This book is the foundational work of the ancient Greek historian Herodotus, widely considered the “Father of History.” Written around the 440s BCE, it details the Greco-Persian Wars from their outbreak in 499 BCE to the Persian defeat at the Battle of Mycale in 479 BCE. The narrative is divided into nine books, each focusing on a different aspect of the conflict. Herodotus sought to explain the causes of the war and to preserve the memory of the great events that had unfolded. The book provides invaluable insights into the political, military, and cultural aspects of the ancient world, making it an essential read for anyone interested in ancient history and the origins of Western civilization. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.

The work also situates his achievements in the broader context of Greek life, war, and cultural exchange, offering a clear picture of what made his History a landmark of classical literature.
