Hermes Agent Engineering: Build Intelligent AI Agents with Memory, Skills, Tool Integration, MCP and Autonomous WorkflowsArtificial Intelligence is rapidly moving beyond chatbots and prompt-based assistants. Today's AI systems are expected to reason, remember, use external tools, automate complex workflows, and continuously improve over time. This new generation of software is built around AI agents, and Hermes is one of the most innovative open-source frameworks leading that evolution.Hermes Agent Engineering is a practical, hands-on guide that teaches you how to design, build, deploy, and maintain production-ready AI agents using the Hermes framework. Whether you're a software developer, AI engineer, DevOps professional, automation specialist, or technical architect, this book provides the knowledge and engineering practices needed to create intelligent systems that solve real-world problems.Rather than simply showing you how to run commands, this book explains how Hermes works internally, how its components interact, and how to build reliable, scalable, and maintainable AI applications. Starting with the fundamentals of AI agents, you'll progressively learn how to work with persistent memory, reusable skills, external tools, Model Context Protocol (MCP), autonomous workflows, and enterprise integrations.Through detailed explanations, practical examples, complete code samples, and real-world scenarios, you'll develop AI agents that can reason through complex tasks, retain context across sessions, integrate with external services, automate business processes, and continuously improve through Hermes' self-improving learning loop.Inside this book, you'll learn how to: Understand Hermes architecture, agent lifecycles, and self-improving learning loopsInstall, configure, and manage Hermes across Windows, macOS, and LinuxWork effectively with the Hermes CLI, profiles, configuration, and supported LLM providersBuild intelligent agents with persistent memory, reusable skills, and structured reasoningConnect APIs, databases, MCP servers, external tools, and enterprise servicesCreate software engineering assistants, research assistants, business automation agents, and DevOps automation systemsDebug, monitor, secure, test, and optimize production AI agentsScale Hermes deployments for enterprise environments using proven architectural patternsExtend Hermes through plugins, integrations, and custom componentsApply engineering best practices for maintainable, high-performance AI systemsExplore the future of autonomous AI agent engineering and emerging industry standardsEvery chapter is written with clarity and practical application in mind. Technical concepts are introduced in plain language before moving into advanced implementations, making the book suitable for both developers who are new to AI agents and experienced engineers building enterprise-grade autonomous systems.
