Walt Disney Productions, 104pp , About the Book :: Herbie ( born 1963 in Wolfsburg , Germany) is a fictional character , a Volkswagen Beetle with certain human characteristics , which has been used in several Disney films from 1968 to film , The Love Bug. The car has consciousness of himself and is able to conduct its own, without requiring driver. Although its front is mostly composed of fixed metal parts, Herbie is limitedly able to bend and reposition , allowing you to return your very expressive face (or expressionless at appropriate times ) . It is a serious contender in motor racing competitions . Herbie is distinguished by its creamy yellow , with three stripes of red, white and blue colors that flow through it from front to back and number " 53 " painted on the front doors and engine cover. In some Latin American countries it was known as Herbie Love Bug ... born in Ejido , with black color sunroof California OFP plate 857. By action of the movies , Herbie is equipped with an engine Porsche 356. The car is named to an expert mechanic named Tennessee Steinmetz ( Buddy Hackett ) in " the Love Bug " by his uncle "Herb " which was a middleweight boxer . His uncle had a broken nose and reminded the front of a Volkswagen Beetle. The "53" logo was chosen because pitcher Don Drysdale Los Angeles Dodgers, wore that uniform number . ( This was mentioned by a member of the production of the original film, Volkswagen personnel ) . While the cars used in all the movies were an original painted Volkswagen L87 Pearl White , the interiors of cars (all films except for the 2005 version , Herbie : Fully loaded) , were painted in a tone that reflect the gray . This was to prevent glare of studio lights during filming. By 2005, the reflections of the study team could be digitally removed in post- production.
