xxiv, pp 326 A new edition, rewritten and enlarged. Well illustrated with black and white photographs and numerous woodcuts and drawings. Very good in pale blue cloth, spine sunned and edges and endpapers spotted, the text is crisp and clean in a firm binding. Ownership inscription of M F Wallis. This book comes from the collection of the scientist and pioneer birth-control campaigner Marie Stopes (1880-1958) which was inherited by her son the philosopher Harry Stopes-Roe (1924-2014) and sold following the death of his widow Mary Stopes-Roe in May of this year. Mary was herself an academic and author, the daughter of the engineer and inventor of the bouncing bomb, Sir Barnes Wallis.
