Print on Demand. This biography chronicles the life of Henry Stuart, the last grandson of James II, who became the Cardinal Duke of York. It provides an in-depth examination of the personal trials and political turmoil that plagued Henry's life. The author paints a vivid portrait of a man torn between the conflicting loyalties to his faith, his family, and his country. The narrative explores Henry's early life during the tumultuous reign of his father, James II, his exile and education in France, and his eventual elevation to the position of Cardinal. Throughout, the book highlights the complex interplay between personal ambition, religious conviction, and the vagaries of international politics. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.

- Modern History of UK and Ireland
The life of the last grandson Of James II., entwined as it was with the more important life of his father and the more stirring life of his brother, would be lamentably incomplete without an account of the men and movements among which he was born and bred, the influences which guided and controlled his development. He, too, stood in the centre of the storm. The vicissitudes Of his near kindred were his; the activities that pressed so closely round them moved and shaped his destiny too, in spite of the quiet resolution with which he eventually took his career into his own hands. Torn from his natural setting, the intrigues and struggles that surrounded him, his life were a formless fragment. Apart from the high lights and deep shadows of his brother's history, it must be a colourless, unintelligible irrelevance. Hence it has been necessary to include in this biography much of the political and domestic history that fell within the term Of Prince Henry's life and so deeply concerned the fortunes of his house, though he himself played little more than a passive part therein.
The book was completed some time before the King over the Water, but it was judged better to keep it back until the son's life should follow as a sequel to the father's. Both have come from the same long and careful research. Until 1766, the lives naturally overlap. Incidents common to both lives that are given at length in King jame's life, are noted here as briefly as possible, that the biography should be complete in itself; while much that was taken from the former book, to keep it within the limits of one volume, finds place here.
