nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Dr. Monte Miller has spent thirty years sitting with people in the middle of their worst moments - first in nursing homes, holding umbrellas for clients who had lost everything, and later in his own therapy practice. But before any of that, he was a sixteen-year-old boy watching his mother die of a stroke, three years after his parents' divorce split his family in two. A painful marriage and a financial collapse would come later. He knows storms from both sides of the room - as the therapist, and as the one who needed help.Held in the Storm is his honest account of the storms that have hit his own life, paired with the clinical techniques and hard-won faith that carried him through them. He walks through the practical, often uncomfortable work of getting through hard seasons: learning that feelings aren't facts, finding the control you actually have when everything feels out of your hands, choosing happiness as a discipline rather than waiting for it to arrive, and giving yourself permission to actually grieve instead of pushing through. He tackles the harder questions too - why disappointment cuts as deep as it does, why bad things happen to people who don't deserve them, and where real hope lives when this life clearly isn't fair.Drawing on decades spent with clients who had far less reason to hope than most of us, Miller makes the case that peace was never about avoiding the storm. It's about learning to stand in it. Blending Christian faith with real clinical insight - 'stroke with one hand, punch with the other,' as one of his own professors once told him - this is not a book of easy comfort. It's honest about how bad life can get, and just as honest about the deep peace that's still possible in the middle of it.And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guide your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:7That lands right around 2,000 characters. Want any adjustments - more emphasis on the faith angle, less on the personal backstory, or a different closing line than the Philippians verse.…

When life falls apart, most people want someone to tell them it will be okay. What they actually need is someone who will tell them the truth.
Held in the Storm is that book. Drawing on thirty years of sitting with people in their worst moments — the divorced, the grieving, the broken, the ones who had lost everything and still found peace — Dr. Monte Miller delivers the hard truths about depression that most self-help books are afraid to say, wrapped in the kind of warmth that only comes from someone who has lived through his own storms.
This is Christian psychology without the clichés — honest about how hard life gets, clear about where real peace comes from, and direct enough to tell you what you might not want to hear.
Inside: Your emotions are lying to you — and here's proof. Grief has layers most people never name. Acceptance is not weakness. It is the only way through. Gratitude is not denial. It is survival. Your storm is not the whole story.
This is not a book about feeling better. It is a book about getting up.
You may be in the storm. But you are still held.
