The book highlights the health status of tribal migrants in an urban setting with specific reference to Cuttack city in Odisha. This book is based upon intensive field work among the tribal migrants residing in the slums in the city. It provides a review of the research on tribes in Odisha and India. An attempt has been made to provide a detailed analysis of the social dimension of health and illness in tribal society, health profile of the tribal slum dwellers, traditional treatments, beliefs and practices, personal cleanliness etc. The author, critically analyses various strategies or steps taken by the Govt. for the improvement of health status of the tribal people in the slum areas in the state. The book suggests that willingness of the government, imparting education and awareness among the tribal migrants can create a better environment which provides a better health.

About the Author: Mr. Deepak Kumar Das is a PhD Scholar at Utkal University, Odisha. He has earned post graduate degree in Sociology from Ravenshaw University.His research work is primarily related to the Tribal communities.He is currently the District Tribal Education Coordinator in Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan under School and Mass Education Department, Govt.of Odisha.
