The conventional wisdom is that it's always better to know about these dangers so that something can be done. That's why we are so enthusiastic about amazing medical technologies that can detect abnormalities even when we reason we are well. That's also why we welcome the identification of risk factors, disease awareness campaigns, cancer screening, genetic testing etc. Americans love a diagnosis so that they can receive attention and health care whether or not it helps them. But it's also true that we do receive too much of it in some circumstances. About the Author

Dr. Ackerman is a clinician, academician, lecturer, author, researcher, and an expert witness in medical malpractice cases. Dr. Ackerman is: Board Certified in both Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology, is a Graduate of the University of Louisville School Of Medicine, did a residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Kentucky, and was Chief Resident in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and he did a Fellowship in Pain Medicine at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas. Dr. Ackerman was: Nominated previously for the Southern Medical Society Medical Research Award, Bristol-Meyers Squibb award for distinguished achievement in Pain Research was a recipient of the Karl Koehler research grant from the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. He has been a guest speaker at medical school department meetings and academic symposiums throughout the country and at international meetings. His research has been featured in the National media as well. He has been on the editorial board of two medical journals. He published sixteen books and many chapters in multiple medical textbooks including the AMA best seller: The AMA Guides to Injury and Disease Causation (First and Second editions). He authored 136 scientific articles in prestigious medical journals such as: Anesthesia Analgesia, Canadian Journal of Anaesthesia, Regional Anesthesia and Pain Management, The Journal of Hand Surgery etc. His book, Gender Factor: Pain Management for Males and Females is now archived at The Arkansas Studies Institute which is a branch of the Central Arkansas Library System. He was on the Editorial Board of two medical journals. He was a Lt. Col in the US Army and Chief of Anesthesiology of two Army medical Center Hospitals and was director of pain management at two private hospitals. Dr. Ackerman was Director of Pain Management at a University Hospital pain clinic and was an Associate Professor as well as an attending clinical instructor in critical care and hyperbaric medicine. He has been an emergency room physician at an Army hospital. He was director of pain management at two private hospitals and was selected to "Who's Who in International Medicine". He is now in private practice and is president of and CEO of his medical clinic. He has a strong belief in medical ethics and the prevention of medical fraud which stimulated him to write this book.
