Memoirs of well-known Welsh Black cattle breeder John Beynon Penlan, written before his death in 2021.The Beynon family has been farming in the St Davids area of Pembrokeshire since at least 1326, as an entry in the Llyfr Du Tyddewi shows. However, the joy of this book is its vivid recollections about the authors own experiences in farming over the second half of the twentieth century, with his Tyddewi Herd of Welsh Black cattle winning Breed Champion at the Royal Show and Royal Welsh Show, as well as Herd of the Year on many occasions. From his 1930s childhood on the family farm to marrying and setting up his own farm and multi-award-winning herd, to retirement and beyond, Beynon provides a wealth of detail about agricultural practices in the mid to late twentieth century in west Wales, writing always with a warmth and a sense of humour that is a delight to read.Includes beautiful foreword by Adam Henson of the BBCs Countryfile programme, and colour farming photographs throughout. Well-known St Davids Welsh Black breeder the late John Beynon 'Penlan' reminisces with humour and warmth about his long experience of farming and his award-winning herd, with a wealth of detail about old agricultural practices. Foreword by Countryfile's Adam Henson and 32 pages of photographs. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

A farmer from St Davids very well known in agricultural circles, John Beynon's Tyddewi Herd of Welsh Black cattle had considerable success throughout the UK, winning Breed Champion at the Royal and Royal Welsh shows and Herd of the Year on many occasions. He was President of the Welsh Black Cattle Society and a Fellow of the Royal Agricultural Societies, and one of only two people ever to win all three of Welsh agriculture's most prestigious awards: the Sir Bryner Jones Award (top award at the Royal Welsh Show), the Idris Davies Memorial Trophy (Pembrokeshire County Show) and the Arthur Pritchard Award (Fishguard Show).
