Item description from seller

Half titles, 2pp ads & 16pp cata. (Feb. 1845) vol. II. Original black vertical fine-ribbed cloth, blocked in blind & gilt, spines lettered in gilt. Ownership inscriptions of M.E. Finch 1845, later bookplates of Charles Arthur Wynne Finch, pastedowns with black wash presumably by him. Sadleir 3044, Wolff 6263. A rabidly anti-Catholic novel by Sewell, 1804-1874, who had been a friend of Newman, but who was alienated by Tract 90. Sutherland describes this as 'an extreme instance of Jesuit paranoia'.
