Paperback. A powerful family has built an empire. Their law firm dominates the legal landscape of Marrington, Colorado, the nation, and the globe. They project the image of perfection in their work and their familial relationships. But this could not be any further from the truth. The patriarch of the Payne name is failing in his battle with dementia. The brilliant de facto leader of the firm, who seamlessly took the reins from her father, is found dead in her family's estate. As the investigation begins, all the secrets that were held so close to the vest by the Payne family are brought to light by two dedicated and clever detectives. The greatest truth that emerges is the extreme degree of hatred most members of the family had for Victoria, the eldest child. She is adored by her father, but her unforgiving, fierce, and sometimes vicious personality has touched every other relationship she has had with her fellow Paynes. When she suddenly meets with death at the hands of a shooter in the Payne Estate, the detectives look to those who knew her best; her brother, her sister-in-law, her sister, her brother-in-law, her mother, and even the housekeeper and her son. No stone is left unturned in the search for the killer. The detectives are pressed by the police chief to get the case solved quickly, as the Payne's have been strong supporters of the force and want their name out of newspaper headlines as fast as possible. Can they solve the case? Is it the perfect crime? The fun is in finding out. This item is printed on demand.
