An outstanding specialist collection devoted to ethnology, mythology, shamanism, religious experience and the anthropology of consciousness. The centrepiece of the collection is Hans Peter Duerr's monumental series "Unter dem Pflaster liegt der Strand", offered here in its original editions and comprising Volumes 1–15. The series represents one of the most influential contributions to German-speaking cultural anthropology and the study of myth, ritual, ecstasy and the boundaries between civilisation and nature. The collection also includes Hans Peter Duerr's "Versuchungen – Essays on Philosophy" (Volumes I–II), providing important insight into the philosophical foundations of his anthropological work. Note: The collection includes Volumes 1–15 of Unter dem Pflaster liegt der Strand. After an interruption of almost three decades, a final Volume 16 was published in 2013. This concluding volume is not included. The offered set therefore represents the original continuous sequence published over many years before the appearance of the much later concluding volume. The collection is complemented by important works from authors who shaped twentieth-century ethnology, comparative religion and cultural history, including: Hans Peter Duerr James George Frazer (The Golden Bough / Der goldene Zweig, Volumes I–II) Mircea Eliade Georges Devereux Carlo Ginzburg Robert Graves Ernst Benz further related works on mythology, ritual, shamanism, symbolism and religious experience. The collection traces the intellectual development of modern anthropology and the history of religions from Frazer's pioneering comparative studies to the works of Hans Peter Duerr and other leading twentieth-century scholars. All books are from a private scholarly library and are in very good condition unless otherwise noted. Provenance: Most volumes bear a small "Pfisterer" ownership stamp (ex libris) on the title page or front endpaper. The stamp is unobtrusive and reflects the books' origin from a carefully assembled private scholarly library. A rare opportunity to acquire an important thematic collection in a single purchase. Price offers are welcome.
