Neuware - A compressor that won't start, a system that 'just needs a recharge,' a rooftop unit throwing a fault code no one can decode - every one of these has a physical explanation, and refrigeration and air conditioning work at every level, from a single-family split system to a supermarket refrigeration rack to a centrifugal chiller, runs on the same underlying physics. Many technicians and students learn this trade as a list of procedures rather than a connected system, which works until an unfamiliar fault pattern appears, a newer lower-impact refrigerant behaves differently than the one it replaces, or a customer asks why a repair actually solved the problem. Resources tend to cover either the theory or the fieldwork, and rarely span the full range of equipment - residential, commercial, and industrial - that a working technician will encounter over a career. This handbook is organized as a complete, progressive technical reference that connects thermodynamic fundamentals directly to field diagnostics, calculations, and service procedures across the full scope of HVAC/R practice, so the reader can reason through unfamiliar situations rather than simply following a checklist. Inside, you will: - Understand the pressure-enthalpy diagram and refrigeration-cycle calculations well enough to explain, not just execute, a diagnostic reading - Take field measurements and translate them into evidence-based fault diagnoses using structured diagnostic fault matrices for compressors, heat exchangers, and expansion devices - Apply psychrometric principles and load-calculation methods to correctly size and evaluate residential and commercial systems - Work confidently with the refrigerants active in the field today, including newer lower-impact options entering residential and commercial equipment - Install, commission, and service residential split systems and commercial rooftop equipment using structured, repeatable procedures - Extend the same diagnostic framework to chiller plants, cooling towers, building controls, and commercial or industrial refrigeration systems - Reinforce every concept with worked examples, chapter practice problems and answer keys, and key-term glossaries built into the text Who this book is for: apprentice and trade-school HVAC/R students building foundational knowledge, journeyman and field service technicians who want a dependable diagnostic and calculation reference, and facilities engineers, service leads, or project managers who need authoritative coverage connecting system physics to real-world performance across residential, commercial, and industrial equipment. Take the next step toward a complete, structured understanding of the subject - get your copy and start connecting the physics of refrigeration and air conditioning to the diagnostic and service work in front of you.…
