BUILD THE KNOWLEDGE AND CONFIDENCE TO UNDERSTAND, DESIGN, PROGRAM, AND MANAGE MODERN INDUSTRIAL ROBOTIC SYSTEMS.
Industrial robots are transforming manufacturing, automation, and production worldwide. From automotive assembly lines to smart factories and advanced manufacturing systems, robotics has become essential for improving productivity, precision, safety, and competitiveness.
However, successful robotics implementation requires more than operating a robot. It requires a solid understanding of mechanical design, motion control, programming, sensing, automation architecture, safety, and system integration.
HANDBOOK OF INDUSTRIAL ROBOTICS provides a complete engineering-focused guide to modern robotic systems. Beginning with robot fundamentals and automation decisions, it takes you through advanced concepts including kinematics, dynamics, motion control, machine vision, programming, PLC integration, industrial networks, workcell design, safety engineering, and lifecycle management.
Designed for engineers, technicians, students, and automation professionals, this book connects theoretical principles with practical industrial applications.
Inside this comprehensive guide, you will learn:
- How industrial robots are classified, selected, and applied in manufacturing environments
- The fundamentals of robot anatomy, degrees of freedom, configurations, and work envelopes
- How actuation systems, transmissions, and mechanical design influence robot performance
- How forward and inverse kinematics enable accurate robot movement and positioning
- The principles of trajectory planning, servo control, dynamics, and payload analysis
- How sensors, machine vision, and feedback systems improve automation reliability
- How to select end effectors, grippers, tooling, and material-handling solutions
- Robot programming methods, offline simulation, controllers, PLCs, and industrial communication networks
- How to design efficient robotic workcells, analyze production requirements, and optimize performance
- Essential safety practices, risk assessment methods, collaborative robotics concepts, and maintenance strategies
Unlike basic robotics introductions, this handbook focuses on practical engineering decisions — helping you understand why robotic systems behave the way they do, how to design them effectively, and how to solve real-world automation challenges.
For students building a foundation in robotics, engineers developing automation solutions, and technicians responsible for maintaining manufacturing systems, this book provides the technical knowledge and practical insight needed to work confidently with industrial robotics.
With detailed explanations, worked examples, practice problems, and engineering methods, HANDBOOK OF INDUSTRIAL ROBOTICS is designed to become a valuable reference throughout your education and professional career.
Understand robotics. Design smarter automation. Build the future of manufacturing.
