This work is an interesting discussion on the history of English coins which, as the author states, gives an insight into the history of the country as a whole. The work offers examples of historic coins, telling their history, their rarity, what was on the reverse, and any legends surrounding the coin. Illustrated throughout with a frontispiece and nine plates. Written and illustrated by Llewellyn Jewitt. Jewitt was an illustrator and author, who was a prolific writer on a large range of subjects. He founded the heavily illustrated antiquarian journal 'The Reliquary', and also founded the 'Derby Telegraph'. Some of his other works include 'The Ceramic Art of Great Britain', 'Grave-Mounds and Their Contents', and 'The Stately Homes of England'. Collated, incomplete, as lacking Plate V. In the original publisher's limp cloth binding. Externally, smart. Only a little rubbing to the boards. Internally, generally firmly bound, though strained in places. Pages are bright and generally clean with only the odd light spot. Lacking plate V. Good.
