Hardcover. This handbook provides a comprehensive summary on the energy systems used in green buildings, with a particular focus on solar energy - the most common renewable energy source applied in this field. With the growing concern about environmental protections, the concepts of green building have been widely promoted and implemented in nowadays building designs and constructions. Among all, sustainable energy systems, including energy harvesting, conversion, and storage, is one of most important design factors in green buildings. Unlike traditional energy systems which highly rely on fossil fuel, green buildings utilize renewable energy source or high efficient energy systems, or both, to provide environmental friendly, low carbon waste energy. The most updated concepts, designs, technologies developed and implemented in heat pumps, cooling systems, power systems, and energy storage will be discussed here in details. This handbook is subdivided into 7-9 main sections to provide an in-depth discussion from foundational principles to practical techniques. In addition, different cases about green energy systems implemented in global will be discussed. The book will be structured easy-to-read, to make it more accessible to graduate students and professionals in diverse scientific and engineering communities, including applied physics, civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, material engineering, and chemical engineering. About the Author
Prof. Wang had been appointed as the director of Institute of Refrigeration and Cryogenics, Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 1993 and served as vice dean, School of Energy and Power (1996-2002); vice dean, School of Mechanical Engineering (2002-2008). He was elected as CheungKong Chaired Professor in 2000 by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of China.
Currently Prof. WANG is the Director- Engineering Research Center of Solar Energy, MOE China, the Director-Institute of Refrigeration and Cryogenics, and the Vice dean of SJTU Energy Institute.
Prof. Wang had been elected as the President of Shanghai Society of Refrigeration (2002-2012), thepresident of Shanghai Society of Solar Energy (2002-2007).
Currently Prof. Wang is the vice president of Chinese Association of Refrigeration, the vice chairman of Chinese Society of Heat Transfer. He is also thevice president of IIR-B2 (Refrigeration Equipments) commission in the International Institute of Refrigeration.
Prof. Wang is the deputy Editor-in-Chief of Energy-the international journal, associate editors of Solar Energy, Heat Transfer Research and editorial member of the other 6 international journals (International Journal of Refrigeration, Progress in Energy and Combustion Sciences, Energy Conversion and Management, Applied Thermal Engineering, Sustainable Cities and Societies, Heat Transfer-Asia Research). Wang is also served as Editor-in-chief of Chinese Journal of Refrigeration Technology, deputy editor-in-chief of Chinese J. Solar Energy.
Prof. Wang served as chairman for several international conferences, including International Sorption HeatPump Conf (ISHPC’2002, Shanghai), International Conference on Cryogenics and Refrigeration (ICCR’2008, Shanghai; ICCR’2013, Hangzhou(co-chair)), International Conference on Sustainable Energy Technology (SET2010, Shanghai).
Prof. Wang was elected as one of the top one hundred outstanding professors in China Universities by MOE China in 2007. He was awarded as model teacher of China in 2009, and "National May 1st Labor Medal" of China in 2013. Prof. Wang won National Invention Award (2nd prizes) on “Solar air conditioning and efficient heating units and their application”, Shanghai Natural Science Research Award (1st Prizes) “The theory and application of adsorption refrigeration technology”.
Prof. Wang was the recipient of the J & E International Gold Medal from the Institute of Refrigeration in 2013. His current research interests are (1) Thermal driven sorption chillers, (2) Solar Cooling, (3) Green Building energy systems, (4) High efficient refrigeration and air conditioning systems, (5) Combined cooling, heating and power systems.
Zhai Xiaoqiang (X.Q. Zhai), graduated from Taiyuan University of Technology in 1993 and 2000 for his bachelor and master degrees, he got PhD from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2006 in the field of Refrigeration and Cryogenics.
His research interests mainly include renewable energy technologies and green building energy systems. Dr. Zhai has carried out the research on solar energy since 2002 when he was a PhD student. He completed his doctoral dissertation based upon the green building of the Institute of Building Science of Shanghai. In view of the above-mentioned research experience, he completed another 5 similar solar energy projects in China. From 2006 to 2011, Dr. Zhai carried out the research on the integration of solar thermal systems with buildings, which was funded by China Ministry of Science and Technology. Based on the research results, as a key researcher, he drew up the Chinese technical code for solar cooling systems in civil buildings, which is the first code for solar cooling in China. Besides, he took part in the research on the code for solar water systems in buildings of Shanghai. Apart from the applied research on solar energy systems, Dr. Zhai also worked on the theoretical research on solar energy systems, especially solar cooling systems. He has taken charge of 2 projects funded by Natural Science Foundation of China to study the optimization of solar cooling systems from two aspects including radiant cooling technology and cold storage technology.
In addition to solar energy, Dr. Zhai has also done the research on geothermal energy. He designed a constant temperature and humidity system driven by a ground-coupled heat pump in a low carbon archives building of Shanghai. This project was chosen as one of national demonstrations for the integration of renewable energy and green buildings in 2010.Based upon his research achievements, Dr. Zhai has published more than 20 papers in the international journals including Renewable Energy, Energy and Buildings, Building and Environment, Geothermics, Applied Thermal Engineering, Applied Energy, and so on. He has published an academic monograph “Energy systems in green buildings” and got nearly 10 granted patents. He has won some research awards, such as National Invention Award (2nd prizes) on “Solar air conditioning and efficient heating units and their application”, Award for Scientific and Technological Advancement of Ministry of Education (1st prizes) on “Integration of renewable energy with buildings”.
