Hiring a professional editor is also essential, regardless of one's writing ability. However, the most crucial step is the actual publishing process, which involves many substeps. The most technical aspect of this process is converting manuscripts into digital formats and electronic files. This handbook also covers audiobook conversion. To attract attention to their book(s), authors must promote them actively. Finally, authors should feel free to adapt these steps to fit their circumstances.

Throughout each of the seven steps, new and emerging authors are encouraged to consider what works best for them thoughtfully. About the Author

After writing several book-length manuscripts and publishing four novels-one of which was recognized in the first-place category in an international book contest-and speaking about becoming an indie author at professional development sessions, the author was encouraged to share her insights on creative writing and self-publishing, resulting in this handbook. Indie author M. J. Simms-Maddox, Ph.D., created 'The Priscilla Series, ' a unique collection chronicling the coming-of-age journey and adventures of a modern-day, self-assured Black American woman of diverse ancestry. The South Carolina native grew up in the Snowbelt of western New York. Her academic credentials include a Doctor of Philosophy degree in political science from The Ohio State University. She has served as a legislative aide in the Ohio Senate, operated a PR firm, and taught political science. Consequently, many plots in the novel series revolve around politics.The author is self-taught; she did not study creative writing in college. She began writing fiction in the late 1990s, inspired by a recurring dream of a conversation with her father. She believed she was finished after publishing her first novel, Priscilla Engaging in the Game of Politics. However, much more came forth after that.

If you use this option, we will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a cancellation on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.

To meet the cancellation deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right to cancel before the cancellation period has expired.

Effects of cancellation

If you cancel this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).

We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.

We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to cancel with contract.

We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.

We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.

Exceptions to the right of cancellation

The right of cancellation does not apply to:

the delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
the supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not cancel it once delivery had started.
