About the Author

GERALD J. KOST, MD, PhD, is Professor of Medical Pathology and Director of Clinical Chemistry in the School of Medicine and a member of the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Group at the University of California, Davis. He received his BS in Engineering and MS (EEP) in Engineering–Economic Systems from Stanford University. He received his PhD in Bioengineering from the University of California, San Diego, and his MD from the University of California, San Francisco, in a joint medical scientist program. His research focuses on myocardial injury, ionized calcium, point–of–care testing, critical limits, and knowledge optimization to improve outcomes.
