Located on the ground floor of John Mills Himself, a heritage-listed building in the heart of Brisbane, Archives Fine Books is one of the largest second-hand and antiquarian bookstores in Australia. Our size means we are like a number of specialty stores in one: art, poetry, literature, philosophy, politics, sport, military history, westerns, Australiana, esoterica, religion, law, business, science, science fiction, fantasy, popular fiction, biography, music, quilting?the list goes on?and on. Established in 1985 by the well-remembered Emmanuel Mescher, the store has been cared for by a handful of unique personalities, each one contributing to its reputation as a Brisbane icon. Hamish Alcorn and Dawn Albinger bought the business in 2008 and have since organised more than half a million books, weathered the Global Financial Crisis, the e-book revolution, and survived freak storms and floods. Since 2013 we have been building the antiquarian and ?Fine? end of the business. We plan to keep the doors open for decades to come, contributing to the intellectual, cultural, and aesthetic life of our city, our country, the world.

Our books are all in good reading condition unless otherwise described. Ordering books sight unseen is risky so we undertake to deliver accurately described books. If you are not satisfied return the book immediately by return mail and we will credit your account for the full amount minus postage.

Shipping Terms

The shipping prices quoted on ABEBooks reflect what we have found to be the "average book". Of course in reality there are many books that do not weigh what an "average book" weighs so there are times when we need to requote shipping, just as there are times when we are in position to refund some of the shipping. Please rest assured we try to get your order to you for a reasonable price, as quickly and as well packed (we carefully pack all of our parcels in book boxes) as possible.

Shipping speeds are estimates based on the carriers' delivery times and cannot be guaranteed. If your order will pass through Customs, please expect a delay. Any applicable Customs duties or brokerage fees are the responsibility of the buyer. If local sales taxes apply, or if the book is heavy or oversized and requires additional shipping, the bookseller may contact you directly about extra charges.
