8vp. Pp. xxii, 411. Illustrated with facsimiles and a map. Bound in red cloth; cover and spine lettered in gilt. In illustrated dust jacket, shallow chips to extremities, closed tear with tape top edge front panel. Uncommon in dust jacket. Volume in the Narratives of the Trans-Mississippi Frontier series. Hall J. Kelley (1790-1874) "was the best publicity agent for the Oregon country in the early days . he might be termed somewhat of a visionary, but his pamphlets, his pleas to Congress, and the resulting publicity led to stirring up a great deal of interest in the new Oregon Territory" [George Tweney].
