A lively and engaging Starters title for beginner readers illustrated by acclaimed picture book artist Polly Dunbar, with a friendly text and stylish two-colour illustrations.
Hal the Highwayman is part of Walker Starters, the wonderfully fun and friendly series for beginner readers. Hal wants to be a fearsome highwayman – but he’s very clumsy and isn’t at all scary. So he signs up for Dick Turpin’s School for Highwayman. Lessons start at once! This is a charming and witty story told through a range of writing styles, including hand-lettered speech bubbles, postcards and posters. The illustrations, which appear on every page, are lively and stylish, and play an active part in helping children understand the text.

About the Author
Polly Dunbar studied illustration at Brighton Art School and now lives and works in London. She is the daughter of the distinguished author Joyce Dunbar (who she worked with on "Shoe Baby") and is the author/illustrator of "Flyaway Katie", "Penguin" and "Dog Blue". Some of the books she has also illustrated include, "The Dragon Test", "Here’s a Little Poem" and "Lucy and the Firestone". She is known for her bold use of bright flat colour and she thinks colour is a brilliant way to cheer yourself up, and whenever she’s feeling grey, she puts on her best pink frock and paints!
