"I spent seventeen years designing mechanical systems for buildings — and somehow forgot to engineer my own life."
In 2017, after nearly two decades as an engineer, David Brinkman took a 30% pay cut for what looked like a lesser job. Everyone said he was crazy. Within eighteen months, he'd automated his work to 15 hours per week and was earning more than ever — not because he found a magic productivity hack, but because he reverse-engineered the actual mechanics of how corporate work gets measured, rewarded, and replicated.
Hack Your Job is the system he built — tested first on himself, then on coaching clients, then refined across five real-world case studies of people who used it to escape the trap of trading more hours for marginally more money.
Inside, you'll learn:
- How to calculate your Effective Hourly Rate (the number 90% of professionals have never run, and the one that exposes which jobs are actually worth your time)
- The 15 Hacks that reclaim 10-20 hours per week from email, meetings, and busywork — ranked by hours saved
- How to use AI as a co-worker (not a gimmick) to compress 8 hours of output into 2
- How to find your Freedom Number — the exact dollar amount that lets you stop trading time for money entirely
- The 90-day implementation roadmap with weekly action items, so you don't just read this book — you actually use it
This book is for you if:
- You're an engineer, accountant, nurse, analyst, manager, or any salaried professional who can build leverage in your field but somehow not in your own life
- You've optimized everything but the system that consumes 60% of your waking life
- You've read every productivity book and you're still working sixty hours a week
- You suspect there's a better way, but everyone you know is on the same exhausted path
This book is not for you if:
You're looking for side-hustle hype, manifestation, or thought-leadership fluff. Every framework here is a system, not a vibe.
Here's what nobody tells you: you don't have to change everything at once.
You change one thing. You automate one task. You reclaim one hour. And that hour compounds — into a free afternoon, then a four-day week, then a life where your calendar finally belongs to you. The people in this book didn't blow up their careers or move to Bali. They started with a single hack on an ordinary Tuesday. Eighteen months later, their lives were unrecognizable.
The retirement-at-65 model isn't broken. It's working exactly as designed — for someone other than you.
Stop trading time for money. Start engineering the life you actually want.
Hack your job before it hacks you.
