Official programme for the match played on May 7th, 1938. This was a disastrous day for City, who created a most unwelcome record in becoming the only reigning League Champions of England to be relegated. In true City style they did it whilst scoring more goals than they conceded and they also scored more goals than all other Clubs in the top Division, including Champions Arsenal. Indeed during the season City beat Derby 6-1 and 7-1, West Brom 7-1, Leeds 6-2 and Charlton 5-3. Before this game started City had five teams below them but a 1-0 defeat coupled with wins by Grimsby, Portsmouth, Birmingham and Stoke ensured that disaster duly happened.
