This report contains the key findings of a project on HR's role in mergers and acquisitions, sponsored by CIPD, Mercers Human Resource Consulting and PricewaterhouseCoopers. It addresses the issue of how the HR function can play a more consistent and strategic role before, during and after the deal to ensure that people issues, often cited as the main cause of poor post-merger performance, are handled well. The research examined 12 organisations across six sectors and looked at joint ventures and acquisitions of different sizes across several countries. The second phase or the research examined four of the companies in more depth, with case study interviews in this country and overseas.
