Synopsis
The collective effort of a group of Romanian and American historians, this is the first new synthesis of the history of the land and people of Romania from ancient times to the present to appear since the fall of communism in 1989. The new revised and expanded third edition contains additional illustrations, an updated bibliography, and covers the important events that have taken place in Romania in recent times, especially the 1996 parliamentary and presidential elections and their aftermath. The history of the region has been divided into five periods: antiquity; the middle ages; the early modern age; the modern age; and the twentieth century. A History of Romania will be a valuable reference work for anyone interested in Romania for years to come. Fully illustrated in colour, colour maps, chronology, list of rulers, glossary of terms, bibliography and index. Also available as a CD-ROM.
