About this Item
12mo., xii, 155 [1] pages. In Very Good condition. Bound in later three quarters calf with marbled paper boards, spine with gilt titling 'Fair Rosamond & Jane Shore - London 1700'. Mild rubbing and wear. Small Robert W. Downing bookplate to front pastedown. With wood-engraved frontispiece and numerous illustrations. Poor impressions to both text and plates. Date presumed from the ESTC, with only two copies listed, located at the British Library and Wake Forest University. This copy lacking the frontispiece, recorded at Wake Forest but not the British Library. Extremely scarce. Shelved case 3. ESTC: T71692. This Downing copy previously sold at auction through Henkels in 1922, where the publication date is cited to be 1700. Maggs sold a copy in 1961, citing the date as c. 1760. S. Crowder only began publishing in 1754/1755. This edition is possibly a reissue of ESTC: T118175 (1760) or ESTC: N62830 (1762), 'The unfortunate concubines,' with new title page and pagination. Both also scarce, with only 5 combined copies on the ESTC. 1347375. Shelved Dupont Bookstore. Seller Inventory # 1347375
