About this Item

One of 450 copies printed on Van Gelder handmade paper. Note says the type was distributed. In a dust jacket with only some light sunning on the spine and a small chip at the head of the spine keeping it from a grade of fine or near fine. Very early dust jacket and a scarce survivor especially in this condition. Jacket is plain cream colored with wide inside flaps and has label pasted on top of it on the spine. Title on the label with date of 1898. Book itself would be full fine perhaps if it were not for some crinkling to the front blank flyleaf along the upper outside edge. The jacket has preserved the paper covering the boards in a most exceptional manner. The covers of blue-gray are thus seemingly as bright as the day of issue. Only very slight bumping at the corners and then mostly on the back corners. Contents very clean. Title page printed in red and black and there is a facsimile title page of the London edition of 1880 following a two-page preface on the history of this work. Preface notes that this edition (which is said to have been a pirated one) is of a finer quality typographically than the original one and that it also includes "Disgust: A Dramatic Dialogue" which the 1880 edition did not have. Size: Small Quarto, 97pp + Note About Printer. Bookseller Inventory # 1831
