Hedgehog Handbook is a complete and beginner-friendly guide for readers who want to understand hedgehogs with care, confidence, and respect. Known for their small size, spiny protection, curious nature, nocturnal habits, and unique survival skills, hedgehogs are fascinating animals that require proper knowledge whether they are being studied in the wild, supported through conservation, or cared for responsibly in suitable domestic settings.
This book takes readers beyond basic facts and introduces the real world of hedgehogs, including how they behave, feed, explore, protect themselves, communicate, stay healthy, and respond to their environment. It explains hedgehog behavior in a clear and practical way, helping readers understand signs of comfort, stress, curiosity, fear, illness, and natural activity. Whether the reader is a beginner, wildlife enthusiast, student, or responsible owner, this handbook provides useful guidance for understanding hedgehogs more deeply.
Inside this guide, readers will learn about hedgehog habitat needs, daily care, feeding, handling, housing, hygiene, enrichment, health management, and long-term responsibility. The book explains how proper environment, balanced nutrition, safe temperature, clean living space, regular observation, and gentle handling all contribute to a hedgehog’s well-being. It also helps readers avoid common mistakes that can affect health, behavior, and quality of life.
This handbook also explores hedgehogs in the wild, including their survival adaptations, natural diet, nesting habits, predator defense, seasonal behavior, and role in ecosystems. Readers will discover how hedgehogs use their sharp senses, protective spines, nighttime activity, and foraging ability to survive in gardens, grasslands, hedgerows, woodlands, and other natural habitats. The guide also highlights conservation challenges such as habitat loss, road dangers, pesticide exposure, garden hazards, and declining wild populations in some areas.
