Item description from seller

First book of published plays - these for television, including "Trip to Bountiful" in its early days - from the prolific playwright (Pulitzer Prize for"The Young Man from Atllanta") and screenwriter (two Oscars for "To Kill A Mockingbird" and "Tender Mercies"). Rare association copy inscribed to actress and acting coach Tamara Daykarhanova, a Russian emigre and student of Stanislovski: "For Tamara and (unidentifiable Russian name, likely husband or partner) with my love, Horton. Jan 5, 1956" A Texas native, Foote studied acting at the Pasadena Playhouse before moving to NYC where he studied at Tamara Daykarhanova Theatre School, where he was indoctrinated into technique learned by Tamara at Stanislavski's Moscow Art Theatre. Before writing drama for television, Foote had ana early acting career. Foote acknowledges Tamara in his memoirs written decades later. An uncommon association. Laid-in is advance copy slip form Harcourt Brace.

Store description

Johnnycake Books trades in rare and collectible books of most kinds, principally in fields of literature, illustrated, childrens, architecture/design, gardening and photography. We try to offer books that are a little unusual, offbeat and unexpected: most have a strong visual or design appeal. Our descriptions present our inventory as creatively and colorfully as possible, with occassional editorial commentary. We regard condition of our books as critical to our service: most are very good or better, in collectible condition. We are generally conservative in describing a book, even if that means it doesn't sound as good as it actually might be. We welcome your comments directly at johnnycake@snet.net or visit our website www.johnnycakebooks.com. Best wishes in your book collecting. Dan Dwyer
