Larkins. ***Very good in half leather and brown and sepia marbled boards with ornate gilt decorations and gilt titles on dark green-black leather label and date and rules to six compartmented spine. All edges of text-block gilt. Brown and sepia marbled front and rear free endpapers and pastedowns. Tiny 'Bound by J. Larkins' binder's stamp to top outer edge of recto of front free endpaper. Very small neat contemporaneous owner's gift inscription: 'Evelyn Jacks from Aunt Cecilia Jan 1914' in black fountain pen ink to top of second front free endpaper. Small diagonal neatly cut corner to top of title-page where an inscription has been cut out, not detracting or affecting text of title-page. A very few unobtrusive old fountain pen ink underlinings on a very few pages. Light offsetting to front and rear free endpapers. No tears.Tiny surface scuff to front board. Spines tight. Gilt titles bright. Leather polished. Gilt edges of text-block bright. ***xv prelim pages including contents plus 420 pages including a comprehensive Chronological Bibliography and an Alphabetical List of Browning's Works and an Index of First Lines to the rear. 170mm x 112mm. ***An antiquarian decorative half-leather and marbled fine binding bound by J. Larkins. Of interest to literary scholars and collectors of Robert Browning and Mrs. Sutherland Orr, who was a close friend of Robert Browning - and collectors of fine bindings - J[eremiah]. Larkins (1833-1907) was a renowned fine book binder.
