From the Publisher
Relational database management systems dominate the database industry and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. The underlying theory of the relational database model has now matured and extensions of the basic model have emerged in response to challenging problems arising in database management. This timely book covers the spectrum of fundamental topics in relational database theory.
The book will be of considerable interest to researchers and database practitioners who would like to gain an in-depth understanding of the foundations of modern relational database management systems, which are not presented in more introductory textbooks. It will also serve as a textbook for third year computer science undergraduates and postgraduates studying database systems.
