Fifty pages absolutely original, beatifully bound in 3/4 brown calf leather, marbled boards (Image 2). 11 x 16 cms. Full page B & W frontispiece of Mr Murray as "Heartley" (see 1st image). Two interesting features here: 1. The back of the Frontispiece engraving has a contemporary ink inscription of several lines (Image 3, enhanced). Very diffiult to read, but possibly a five line poem (possibly Garrick writing? Why so carefully preserved?). There is also an interesting Advertisement by Garrick (see 4th Image, right). Also associated: 2. A framed original engraving of Garrick as Hamlet. This original (Image 5) taken from: "Illustration to Sayer and Smith's 'Dramatic Characters, or Different Portraits of the English Stage" (1769-1773). Etching and engraving, with some stipple. Print made by: Charles Grignion. Intermediary draughtsman: Johann Ludwig Fäsch. After: Benjamin Wilson & Published by: Robert Sayer & John Smith of Cheapside (See British Museum Catalogue entry Museum number Ee,3.102). The scan in Image 5 is a little defocussed, due to the glass frame offset. More information on request, with pleasure. Sold as a pair.
