Armando Ríos Piter es un político, académico y activista nacido en Tecpan de Galeana, Guerrero. Es egresado de la Facultad de Derecho de la UNAM y de Economía en el ITAM. Cuenta asimismo con una maestría en Seguridad Nacional por la Universidad de Georgetown, y con estudios de maestría en Administración Pública enfocada al Desarrollo por la Universidad de Harvard. Como administrador público ha participado en la creación de políticas públicas relacionadas con temas de seguridad y desarrollo. Se desempeñó como subsecretario de la Secretaría de Reforma Agraria a nivel federal y como secretario de Desarrollo Rural en su estado natal. Como senador, participó activamente en el debate que condujo a la legalización del cannabis para uso científico y medicinal. Obtuvo el tercer recurso de amparo de la Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación que autorizaba el uso recreativo del cannabis, el cual sentó las bases de la jurisprudencia vigente en la materia. Asimismo, ha presentado iniciativas para una nueva política de regulación del cultivo de amapola en México.

Armando Ríos Piter is a politician, academic, and activist born in Tecpan de Galeana, Guerrero. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and from the Faculty of Economics at the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM). He also holds a master's degree in National Security from Georgetown University and has completed master's level coursework in Public Administration with a focus on Development at Harvard University. As a public administrator, he has participated in the creation of public policies related to security and development. He has served as Undersecretary in the Secretariat of Agrarian Reform at the federal level and as Secretary of Rural Development in his home state. As a senator, he actively participated in the debate that led to the legalization of cannabis for scientific and medicinal use. He won the third injunction from the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation allowing the recreational use of cannabis, which formed the basis of the jurisprudence that prevails today on the matter. He has also presented initiatives regarding a new policy for regulating opium poppies in Mexico.
