Paperback. Living in Blackwood Village is like living inside a giant, dusty history book-except in Blackwood, history has a habit of trying to trip you up.Aiden is the kind of kid who lives for the mystery behind a locked door, while his best friend, Iain, is the reluctant voice of reason who would much prefer to stay safe and bored at home. When the pair discovers an ancient, supposedly haunted tower looming over their village, their plans for a quiet weekend of homework quickly spiral into the adventure of a lifetime.Inside the crumbling tower, they don't find ghosts, but something far more dangerous: a massive, celestial machine hidden within the stone. When a pulse of mysterious blue light awakens the ancient gears, Aiden and Iain accidentally trigger a cosmic beacon, alerting a terrifying shadow-creature to their presence. Now, trapped in a shifting, gravity-defying tower that is rapidly becoming a high-tech starship, the boys must use nothing more than a magnifying glass, a math ruler, and their own wits to outrun a supernatural parasite. As the stars themselves begin to align, Aiden and Iain find themselves caught in a desperate race to repair a fray in the time-stream before their village-and their world-is changed forever. Can two ordinary kids outsmart an ancient glitch in reality, or are they destined to become the first casualties of a cosmic conspiracy?
