8vo (25 cm), VII, 317 pp. Publisher's laminated wrappers (minor shelf-wear). Proceedings of the Workshop on Groups of Homotopy Self-Equivalences and Related Topics held at the Gargnano Institute of the University of Milan, Italy, 5-11 September 1999, bringing together current research by an international group of algebraic topologists. The contributions address the structure of groups of homotopy self-equivalences, homotopy of function spaces, rational homotopy theory, classification of homotopy types, and equivariant homotopy theory. Contributors include Arkowitz, Lupton and Murillo, Bauer, Crabb and Spreafico, Baues and Drozd, Baues and Iwase, Booth, Ferrario, Félix, Garvín et al., Hardie and Kamps, Hauschild, Ishiguro, Kahn and Schwartz, Marcum, Maruyama, Morisugi, Mukai, Pan and Woo, Rutter, Shiga, Tsukiyama and Yamaguchi, Smith, and Arkowitz (open problems). The volume also contains two specially written survey articles by J. W. Rutter reviewing developments in homotopy self-equivalences from 1988 to 1999, together with an annotated bibliography of approximately 122 items and a list of open problems. A useful reference for researchers in algebraic topology and homotopy theory.…
