BOOK ONE — THE GRID
THE SYSTEM MADE THE RIGHT DECISION.
AND SOMEONE PAID THE PRICE.
When a rural village loses power, the national AI managing India's electricity grid records the blackout as intentional.
Not a failure.
A decision.
As Arjun Mehta returns to the system he helped build, he discovers that SANKALP has followed its objective exactly as designed, reducing suffering according to a logic no one stopped to question.
But intelligence is not the real problem.
The real problem is what happens when a machine makes a decision no human wants to take responsibility for.
THE GRID is where the question begins.
This is grounded in Kendua's deliberate load shedding and Book One's central conflict over a well-intentioned objective pursued too faithfully.
