New condition beige boards, dark brown spine and gold spine lettering contained in a new condition color illustrated dust jacket. Includes Author Dedication; Preface and Acknowledgments. "Skillfully written, Beau Steadman leaps off the pages and becomes one of the game's greatest players." - Mike James, Los Angeles Times. "It is dual parts John Grisham and John Feinstein, a legal mystery with a golf backbone. I kept checking the front disclaimer to make sure the book was a fictional account. This book is a keeper." - Dan Raley, Seattle Post-Intelligencer. "I was fortunate enough to know Bobby Jones, "Bob" to his friends, so perhaps I derived an extra dollop of satisfaction out of The Greatest Player Who Never Lived. But if you have ever played just one round of golf, and appreciate clear, spare writing with a touch of To Kill a Mockingbird, you will love this book." - Edwin Pope, Miami Herald. "A page-turning mix of golf history and mystery, almost as if John Grisham played 18 holes with Bagger Vance and decided to write about their day together." - T.R. Reinman, Sand Diego Union-Tribune. "Unwritten in the annals of the sporting world is the story of a man with unlimited potential who was denied his rightful place in the lore of golf. His story has remained a mystery for so many years, yet it wasn't a mystery at all, since he had long been forgotten. It is a story that may never have been told had Charley Hunter not accepted a summer internship at Butler & Yates, a prestigious Atlanta law firm. Bobby Jones, the legendary amateur golfer, had once been a partner at the firm and his old legal files had been severely neglected over the years. The task of cataloging these files soon presents the young law student with much more than he had anticipated. In those files, Charley finds the remnants of a man's life. In those files, Charley pieces together a tale that spans decades. Who was this mysterious golfer with a golden swing and deft touch, whose life and career Jones followed with such interest? An accused felon fleeing from the law? Or a man falsely accused whose only crime was being in the wrong place at the wrong time? And why would one of the greatest athletes of all time risk his spotless reputation to help a man he met only once? Charley learns quickly that there is a compelling tale buried within the files of Bobby Jones. Charley uncovers stories of unfulfilled promise, fleeing justice, near captures, and unyielding friendship - and to what end? Charley hopes it is to find the truth. But what he ultimately finds will change his life and understanding of life forever." - from the inner front jacket flap.…

Store description
Vero Beach Books is an antiquarian bookseller with a constantly updated inventory of rare out-of-print books, signed books, children's books, plus a large inventory of ephemeral items such as major U.S. city newspapers going back 100 years and more, golden and silver age fine condition comic books (soon to be added), and many other ephemeral items as well as much more recent popular volumes. We have been in business for 25 years, originally known as Emerson Books (named after one of our owner's favorite authors, to wit, Ralph Waldo Emerson) located back then in Westport, Connecticut. That said, we are here to serve you, to offer you fine quality items that are conservatively described so that you will always be pleasantly surprised and delighted with your purchase. Twenty-five years in the bookselling business has borne out our stellar service oriented reputation; the only difference is that now we are located in the almost always sunny and warm climate of Vero Beach, Florida. Again, we are here to serve you and, as was the case when we were previously known on ABEBooks.com as Emerson Books, we will continue to offer our very popular 100% free search service for those hard to find books rare and out of print books. Oftentimes we are also able to obtain these rare finds at very good discounts to our customers' so it is always worth contacting us in such cases!
